Autism Testing for Adults in Minnesota

1. What type of autism testing do you offer and how does it work?

I use the Monteiro Interview Guidelines for Diagnosing Autism-Second Edition (MIGDAS-2), a sensory based, neurodiversity affirming assessment for the presence of autism. Evaluation involves a 50-60 minute intake appointment, a 90-120 minute testing session, 60 minutes of cognitive testing, and a 50-60 minute feedback appointment to discuss the results. You will also receive a written report uploaded to the platform within two weeks after the feedback session has been completed.

2. Do you have a waitlist for the MIGDAS-2?

Interview, feedback, and testing sessions are offered during the week and on weekends. Wait times are posted on the website and are regularly updated.

3. Is the MIGDAS-2 a valid Assessment?

Yes. The MIGDAS-2 is an empirically valid method of gathering and organizing information needed to diagnose autism in adults.

4. Can the MIGDAS-2 be administered over telehealth? What about the other assessments?

Yes. The MIGDAS-2 has been successfully used via telehealth for years. The RIAS-2 and Wisconsin Card Sorting Task were adapted when COVID began. They are easy to use remotely and their results are valid. The speeded processing tasks of the RIAS-2 are not included as they don’t translate well to remote administration.

5. My adult partner wants to participate. Is this possible?

Yes, I invite your adult partner or even your parent to be a part of the evaluation process whenever possible.

6. Are the results of my testing accepted by my doctor, therapist, or University?

I have not experienced a situation where the testing was not accepted.

7. Is there a downside to tele-assessment?

Yes. There are several factors that make tele-assessment more difficult. I can only see you from the waist up, so I might not notice some body movements. Technology can sometimes get in the way. There may be a disconnection due to poor internet service, the screen may freeze briefly, or our voices might become distorted. These things are taken into consideration when interpreting results.

8. How can your rates be so low? Other places charge between $2000-$5000.

I am able to keep prices lower because I work out of my home office. While I have a psychometrist now and financial manager, generally speaking, my overhead costs are low. This allows me to make care more affordable.

9. Why don’t you accept insurance payments?

I did work hard to get credentialed with several insurance companies, but working with insurance companies is time consuming and frustrating. I wasted a lot of time to receive denials for services and the result has been that I just won’t work with them anymore. I do provide SuperBills

10. What is a SuperBill?

A SuperBill is like a medical receipt. It has the dates of services on it as well as costs, and provides your insurance company with information about me, including my license number and address.
